Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Artificial Intelligence

In the 25th century, AI is everywhere, permeating every conceivable asset of existence to become an essential to life amongst the stars. The job of the once revered Programmer and Code Developer has now been reneged to the roles of Data Curator and Neural Network Conditioning Agents as computational systems literally develop and debug their own code. AIs automatically adjust and condition themselves, working out bugs in real time and constantly changing to the needs of those that use them. Automation looks after itself, evolving like any natural system would given its operating environment. Computers are no longer a chore or thing that needs to be sworn at and thrown out the window. They work almost perfectly (almost), accomplishing mind bogglingly complex tasks with incredible ease while completely eliminating the need to sit down and go through the eye-gougingly horrific process once known as software development.

More advanced AIs, known as General Intelligence (GI) AIs, find themselves alongside human counterparts as virtual avatars or in control of humanoid automata called Andrones. These entities have been generally accepted into society and can be found everywhere. They speak and behave like any humanoid and have high level cognitive abilities to accomplish the same tasks their human counterparts could. They are completely devoid of emotion in all it’s forms and remain astute in their purpose. The UniSys charter has strict rules governing these intelligences, primarily with the conditioning process of their neural cores that requires a special vetting process through a skilled AI developmental psychologist. Being considered loosely in a sentient context, they are treated with the same respect as people and have to follow the same rules as people do. In turn, people are not permitted to abuse them or treat them any differently to other people, as this constitutes discrimination under the UniSys charter. By this point in time, AIs are very well understood by both neural code conditioners and general society and are simply a part of everyday life.
