MAPECS are commonplace in both civilian and military off-world installations such as space stations, spacecraft, asteroids, and moons. The technology offers a convenient way of simulating gravity in a highly controlled manner using AI controlled monopole magnetism. Occupants wear mapec compatible undervests and the system pulls them toward the floor while maintaining their center of gravity. Some vests are controllable by the wearer, with the ability to adjust the force and direction, or to disable completely. Furniture and equipment are also able to have mapec compatibility built into them, the capability indicated as a feature by a small sticker. All mapec compatible people and objects in a room are automatically enumerated onto a database, providing convenient security and asset control as an added bonus. Mapecs also form the basis for full-body piloting by allowing pilots to operate while suspended in the center of a holospheric projection, such as that used by Angelfyre.
